The Agricultural Association of Santander denounce the reiterated threat to the leaders of ASOGRAS to the national and international community, and human rights organisations.

THE FACTS

On arriving at the offices of the Secretaries Department of the Agrarian Association of Santander, on Friday 17th February 2012 at approximately 11:30am, MARIBEL QUINTERO found a document which had been slipped under the door. The document was a threat from the Black Eagles of Magdalena Medio, stating: “death to the leaders of ASOGRAS especially to the son-of-a-bitch CESAR TAMAYO ++++++”.

WHAT WE ASK FOR

  • An investigation and clarification of the facts, motives and authors of the threat.

  • The application of the appropriate judicial sanctions against the intellectual authors of this threat and other such ones.

  • The authorities to adopt urgent protective measures in light of the imminent danger faced by Cesar Tamayo and other leaders, especially given that this type of threat is reiterate.

  • International human rights organisations and networks to monitor and verify the facts that we are denouncing.

Below is a copy of the translated letter...

The new generation Black Eagles bloc of Magdalena Medio

You are declared a military target

To the masked, son-of-a-bitch guerrillas, defenders of human rights, farmers of the ASOGRAS association (Agrarian Association of Santander), leaders of the campaign for land restitution in Santander and Magdalena Medio: We demand you desist from assisting with cases related to the issue of land in Sabana de Torres and other municipalities.

Death to the leaders of ASOGRAS, especially to the son-of-a-bitch of Cesar Tamayo and his accomplices. We have already warned you that if you don't stop defending the guerrillas we will kill you, and we mean now!

We welcome your organisation and other defenders of human rights to attend the funeral of peasant leaders that oppose the large-scale [mining] projects in Santander.
