Why
is there so much Violence in Colombia?
…nearly 4 million displaced…more than 2000 trade
unionists killed in
the last two decades…40,000 citizens killed overall since 1998…more
than 15,000 disappeared…
Too often, the ongoing conflict in Colombia is naturalized in
mainstream media coverage as though it were a timeless, inherent
characteristic of the country and its people.

In
the next London branch meeting, Andy Higginbottom contests this view
and introduces competing historical explanations of the violence of
Colombia’s “dirty war.”
This will be an informed discussion
with invited participants, done as an attempt at gaining an overall
understanding of the circumstances in Colombia
London branch
meetings of the Colombia Solidarity Campaign take place at 7pm every
third Tuesday of the month at The Apple Tree pub, 45 Mount Pleasant,
